Privacy represents a crucial notion in US political culture during the 1960s and 1970s. Rather than understanding the notion as a seperate sphere of seclusion, the presentation elaborates on how governmental practices have shaped privacy debates. This talk is presented by the Collaborative Research Center "Culture of Vigilance" and funded by the German Research Foundation.
