Monsanto’s Past and Our Food Future

The AI kindly invites you to the guest talk of Bartow Elmore (Ohio State University) on July, 25, 12 to 14, room 201 in Schellingstr.3/VG

seed moneyEnvironmental historian Bart Elmore spent the better part of a decade investigating the history of Monsanto, one of the biggest players in the genetic engineering revolution that first took hold in farms and fields a quarter century ago. He recently published his research in his newest book, Seed Money: Monsanto’s Past and Our Food Future (W. W. Norton, 2015). Now owned by German firm Bayer, Monsanto’s seed portfolio has been rapidly reshaping ecosystems across the globe.

In this talk, Elmore will reveal what he learned about the first twenty-five years of GE seed dispersal from deep dives in Monsanto corporate archives, interviews with key officials inside and outside the St. Louis-based company, and government/court documents released over the last couple decades. The goal will be to think about what this history can teach us about creating a sustainable food future.
